Steven Firth scored 75 in Heyside’s total of 171 for 3 to increase their lead at the top of the league table with Dean Watkinson taking six Greenfield wickets for eighteen runs. Ben Johnson scored 60 in Greenfield‘s total of 168 all out.
Hollinwood in second place, lost ground thanks to a century from Austerlands’ professional, Dunwell Hector in their reply of 198 for 6. Captain John Winterbottom was Hollinwood’s top scorer with 54 in a total of 197 for 8.
Stayley and Moorside tie for third place but both lost their matches on Saturday. Against Stayley, Zafar Iqbal 55 and John Morris 116 no, the highest score of the day, were Friarmere’s best in the highest innings score of the day 253 for 2. Paul Jewitt, back at Friarmere where he first started his Saddleworth League career, took 5 wickets for 73 runs. Professional Rehan Rafiq was Stayley’s top batsman with 69.
Moorside 133ao, at home to Bamford Fieldhouse lost by over a hundred runs with Gerry Cassell scoring 93 for the visitors.
Glodwick scored a reasonable 162 all out replying to a score of 231 for 7 but Saddleworth professional Peter Skuse, 5 for 35 made sure it was well short of the asking. Craig Lawrence was Saddleworth’s top scorer with 79.
The season’s best all-round performance so far from Uppermill’s Zeeshan Khan, 110 not out and five wickets for 2 runs, plus a half century from last season’s professional James Baron, was 140 runs too many for Shaw.
